The Ballet School of Rome offers a training course in contemporary dance lasting eight years. The courses are divided into 3 two-year periods – Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Intermediate 3 – and 2 courses of annual duration – Advance 1 and Advance 2. This program guarantees the student a multidisciplinary and complete study path, alternating weekly lessons of contemporary and of classical dance, to develop in students with particular propensity for contemporary dance a greater knowledge and familiarity with contemporary stylistic and technical trends, providing the best bases to face the future insertion in professional contexts.
In the first two years of Intermediate 1, for pupils from 10 to 12 years of age, in addition to a study that intends to graft the fundamental elements of classical dance, it introduces the first expressive elements of contemporary dance in progression.
In the following two-year Intermediates, the integration of the disciplines provides for a gradual immersion of the students in the study and practice of classical dance as a basis for tackling the multiple styles of contemporary dance by offering an advanced and professional level of didactic and artistic proposals. To develop a versatile approach to the art of dance, students of contemporary courses will be required to actively participate in the creative process and to interact with the different methodologies and expressions of dance.
The Advancement courses foresee a further intensive increase in the study of contemporary disciplines, directing students to measure themselves with the languages of dance and performance. Dialogue opportunities will also be fostered with artists and experts active in various disciplines of the contemporary arts, exposing choreographic research to innovative creation and representation processes.
